Garmin ได้ให้คำนิยามของ iQue M3 ว่าเป็นระบบนำทางในรถยนต์ที่มีขนาดกะทัดรัด น้ำหนักเบา ซึ่งมาในรูปลักษณ์ และความสามารถ ของ Pocket PC โดย M3 มีเมนูในการนำทางแบบเดียวกับ StreetPilot c320 ซึ่งได้รับความนิยม อย่างสูงทั้งในและต่างประเทศถึงความสะดวกและง่ายต่อการใช้งานโดยM3ได้รับออกแบบปุ่มที่ใช้ในการนำทางในหน้าจอต่างๆ ให้มีขนาดใหญ่ โดยใช้นิ้วสัมผัสหน้าจอเพื่อสั่งงานได้ทันที โดยไม่ต้องใช้ stylus เช่น iQue รุ่นอื่นๆเหมาะกับการใช้งาน ในรถยนต์เป็นอย่างยิ่ง

การแสดงผลของแผนที่ทำได้ 3 ลักษณะเช่นเดียวกับ c320 คือ แบบ 3D perspective view และ 2D แบบ Track up & North up ซึ่งแตกต่างกับ iQue รุ่นอื่นที่ทำได้เพียงสองแบบ

นอกจากนี้ M3 มาพร้อมกับความสามารถของ Pocket PC ทุกประการโดยสามารถปรับหน้าจอแนวตั้งและนอนได้ พร้อมทั้งความสามารถอื่นๆ ของ Pocket PC ทั่วไปที่บันทึกนัดหมาย ทึ่อยู่เบอร์โทรศัพท์ ฯลฯ ซึ่งใช้งานได้เหมาะสมทั้งในธุรกิจ เรื่องส่วนตัว และการนำทางในเครื่องเดียว

iQue M3 ใช้ processor ของ Intel PXA 271 Xscale ความเร็ว 312 MHz สำหรับการทำงานของ Pocket PC และ co-processor ARM7 ความเร็ว 48 MHz สำหรับการทำงานของ GPS เช่นเดียวกันกับ M5 ดังนั้นการทำงานของ M3 ในส่วนของ GPS มิได้ช้ากว่า M5 แต่อย่างใด

สิ่งที่แตกต่างระหว่าง M3 & M5 มีดังนี้ (ข้อมูลจากเอกสารของ Garmin): M3 ไม่มี Bluetooth แบตเตอรี่เปลี่ยนไม่ได้ ROM 32MB 2MB safe storage processor หลักช้ากว่าแต่ gps co-processor เท่ากัน
ส่วนอื่นๆ ทีสำคัญเช่น ขนาดและความละเอียดของหน้าจอ RAM 64MB มีinfrared มีระบบอัดเสียงฟังเพลงเช่นกัน

The iQue M3 features Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 Professional Edition software package, Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, which supports portrait/landscape screen orientation for easy viewing of multimedia content.

Incorporating Garmin's proven, easy-to-use c-series automotive navigation software, the iQue M3 provides premium in-car navigation capability with automatic route calculation to any destination. The intuitive, point-screen interface requires little input from the user. Users can easily see where they are on an electronic map, and look up an address or point of interest and route to it. An integrated speaker gives voice-prompted, turn-by-turn directions to your destination.

Users are also able to choose between a three-dimensional navigation view or the more traditional 2D overhead view. The 3D-navigation perspective lets drivers see an uncluttered view of what's down the road.

The iQue M3 comes with Thailand City Select V6.7 in the memory card - TCS V6.7 contains more than 300,000 POIs including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. The detail map consists of 99% of street & Soi in Bangkok & Vicinity as well as Amphor Muang & major city of every provinces.

The GPS antenna on the iQue M3 folds flush with the back of the unit. To navigate, simply raise the antenna to enable Garmin's patented antenna-release switch that simultaneously powers up the device, initiates the satellite-acquisition sequence, and defaults to the QueMap™ interface. Once the antenna switch is triggered, the device prepares to navigate. The antenna can also be adjusted for optimal GPS signal reception.
